Why does fire spread so quickly?
From an early age, we are taught about the dangers of fire. However, when it comes to being a business manager or the owner of the company, considering the effects of fire is something which you must spend care and attention on. This is because any business must have a proper fire safety plan, fire safety risk assessment and fire safety training in order for it to be fully compliant with legal regulations.
The three elements that caused a fire are known as the fire triangle. All of these must be present to cause a fire, and in the right mixture they can be truly dangerous. The elements include the following;
Fuel. A fire cannot burn without fuel. If you remove the fuel from the fire then the fire will stop.
Oxygen. Oxygen is a requirement in order to start a fire, and can be removed by smothering the fire with dry chemicals or fire blankets.
Heat. Heat is required for a fire to begin so it is important to identify the source of heat if you wish to eliminate fire.
When a fire occurs, a chemical reaction takes place between the oxygen and the fuel. In order for it to start, the fuel must be heated until it reaches a sufficient temperature, known as the ignition temperature. This is why a fire cannot start if a petrol can is left in the open air. It really does need heat for it to ignite and then the oxygen will fuel the flames. With enough fuel, heat and oxygen, a fire can rage uncontrollably. In a house or business, there are many flammable materials which can fuel the development of the fire.
Most common causes of fire include smoking, cooking equipment, overloaded electrical systems, poor fuel storage areas, and heating equipment.
By identifying the risks which could lead to fire, you can create practical solutions which can keep everybody’s mind at ease and the building under much safer control.
The threat of fire should prompt every business to conduct a thorough fire risk assessment. A professional company, like Total Fire Services Ltd, can conduct this. We are able to provide sufficient fire safety training and comprehensive fire risk assessments for any size business, across the UK including areas such as Wigan.
What they say
"Due to internal resource issues we at Chessington World Of Adventures were struggling to meet our commitments of having "suitable and sufficient" fire risk assessment for all of our buildings and Rides on site. Meeting the challenge of maintaining our continued commitment to having "suitable and sufficient" fire risk assessments in place for all of our buildings and Rides on site required us to search for a competent third party supplier who could deliver our needs at a reasonable cost"
