The brand new extinguisher is so powerful it can pierce through doors and brick walls in a matter of seconds, and on Tuesday, firefighter from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service tested out the new equipment at derelict flats in Collyhurst.
This will mean that fire brigades can now attempt to tackle fires without having to enter a building.
The ‘Ultra High Pressure Lance’ costs £44,500, and uses a combination of water and a cutting agent that is ‘ejected through a nozzle at high pressure’. Small holes are created, allowing the water to enter the building.
The brand new technology will be rolled out to all front line engines in the Greater Manchester area in the next few months. A £2 million investment which is likely to save many lives.
